Heligan Heritage Sweet Pea Collection, Painted Lady
These gorgeous blooms were first recorded in 1752. Producing a very sweetly scented pink and white bicolour. A wonderful blast from the past, this heirloom variety is acknowledged as the first Sweet Pea 'sport'.
This unique range of Old-Fashioned Sweet Peas has been curated by our Head Gardener and specialist grower Philip Johnson, of Johnson's Sweet Peas. Reflecting the historic blooms and highly scented varieties found in The Flower Garden at Heligan.
Every seed in every pack has been harvested by Philip, preserving these old-fashioned varieties, to be grown in your garden.
How to Grow:
Sow: indoors October - March or outdoors March - April
Sow 5 seeds, 2cm deep in a 12cm pot of moist peat free compost. Over winter in a cold frame. Keep cool and fleece in frosty weather.
Plant in sunny, well-prepared site from March onwards.
10 seeds per packet.
Germination around 14 days.
Height and spread up to 150cm.
Pinching is not essential as this type branches naturally.
