Spot This: Crimson Bromeliads in The Jungle
Share
On the east side boardwalk this week, the Crimson Bromeliads (Fascicularia bicolor) are stealing the show. Most hunker close to the ground, blazing red among the ferns and moss, but keep an eye up too — there’s a real showstopper perched high on a fallen log.
These spiky Chilean plants are at their peak right now, their centres turning vivid crimson with tiny blue flowers tucked inside. They thrive in The Jungle’s damp, sheltered heat, and in late summer they light the undergrowth with fiery sparks.
