The mellow days of late September have brought a classic harvest scene to Heligan. In the Kitchen Garden, gardeners have been busy gathering the season’s pumpkins, their vibrant colours and assorted shapes revealed as the foliage dies back.
Martin, Lydia, Andy, Archie and Clive carefully cut and lifted them from their rambling beds, each one cradled into a wheelbarrow for the short trip to the Melon House.
Inside the glasshouse, the pumpkins now rest in colourful rows, glowing like a gallery of autumn treasure. Here they will continue to cure, their skins hardening and flavours deepening, ready for Heligan Kitchen and our Harvest display.
