Another Hedgehog Release at Heligan
Share
Last Friday, our Wildlife Coordinator Toby worked with Prickles & Paws Hedgehog Rescue to release several hedgehogs into the quiet corners of The Lost Gardens of Heligan. Each animal had been nursed back to health and made ready for a safe new life in the wild.
Hedgehogs bring more than charm to a garden. As natural pest controllers they feast on slugs, beetles and other insects, helping to protect young plants without chemicals. Their nightly foraging turns soil and spreads seed, enriching habitats and keeping ecosystems diverse.
Heligan has welcomed hedgehog rescues before, and every release helps strengthen the delicate network of wildlife that makes these gardens special. Visitors may not always see the animals themselves, but the rustle of leaves and healthy growth around the paths speak to their quiet, ongoing work.
